DOES GOD NEED TO BE LOVED SINCE HE'S LOVE?
Before you start reading
this post I'd like you to ask yourself this;' Do I love God?'
On a typical Saturday morning, while I was busy
with morning chores and all there was to do at home, I sang the common 'I love
Jesus' most of us learned in kindergarten
(I’ll post lyric below in case you weren’t taught or might have forgotten),
and while I repeatedly sang this song a
question ran through my mind. The question is this post's topic- ‘Does God need to be loved when he’s love?’ (1
John 4:16).At first, I thought it was a simple question but I decided to
consult the bible. I discovered a lot of things about God and love that I’ve
decided to share with you. Enjoy!
“37 Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy
God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul and with all thy mind. 38This
is the first and great commandment” –Matthew 22:37-38
Wow, it’s a commandment;
not just a commandment but the FIRST and GREAT commandment.
Just as we read in
Mathew 22:35-38, loving God with all our heart, soul and mind is the greatest
and first commandment. Unfortunately, we live in an age where the word “love”
means “just a feeling”. Loving somebody is confused to mean “feeling good about
them. However in biblical terms, loving God encompasses more than just feeling
good about him, it is also tightly connected to doing what God wants. That
is, his commandments.
“If you love me, you will obey what
I command” John 14:15
As a believer, loving
God is not negotiable. It’s a commandment God as given to us which means we
shouldn’t love God by just acting or saying it because we want to seem ‘godly’
or because everyone else says it. We love GOD by sincerely saying it without shame and tirelessly
acting it.
God is to be loved
unconditionally, unceasingly and wholeheartedly not because of what we stand to
gain from he has for those who love him
Imagine loving someone
who either doesn't love you, loves you but doesn't show it or pretends to love
you simply because of what you have to offer. Gosh! it can be so heartbreaking,
and definitely something we can’t withstand most times. Sometimes, we even
go out of our ways to do things for the ones we love but in the end
we feel all we did were just wasted effort simply because we get negative
responses and reactions from them. Just as we deserve love, God does
too.
God has proven how
much he loves us by giving up his only begotten son to die for us so
that we may enjoy life. Believe me, this whole bible is a love letter written
by God telling you how much he loves you .But the question is, will you accept
God’s love? Will you love God? Will you accept Jesus Christ?
It is
expected that we reciprocate God’s love. Loving God entails accepting Jesus. One
thing I know for sure is you can’t believe whom you don’t love and you can’t
love whom you don’t accept. ‘How then,
can they call on the one they have not believed in? And how can they believe in
the one of whom they have not heard? Romans 10:14-15 confirms that.
Loving God with all your heart is essential for it is only love that can make
you fear him, keep his commandment, believe his works and words and accept him
as your lord and savior.
So friends let us express our love
for God by not just professing it, but acting it just as he has commanded.
I LOVE JESUS.
I love Jesus
I love Jesus
He's my friend
I will never leave him
He's my friend
